The varsity boys cross country team pulled off a narrow victory at the Brownsburg Invite September 6, using late-race surges in the final kilometer to edge out the host school by three points, 63-66. The frontrunning trio of junior Jonah Kaul along with juniors Deklin Bowser and Zach Flint finished within a second of each other in ninth, tenth and 11th places overall. Kaul's 15:38 was a few seconds shy of his time the previous week at the Hamilton County championship while Bower and Flint ran lifetime bests of 15:39. Junior Cooper Szotek ran a massive personal best time in 15:53, nearly a minute ahead of his best time as a sophomore, to finish 17th overall. Junior Lucas Bartlett moved up from 80th place at the mile to finish 21st in 15:58, also taking nearly a minute off his personal record, in his first race of the season. Sophomore Grant VanNahmen followed Bartlett's lead in moving through the field, finishing in 16:01 to place 25th while pushing back scorers from each team. Freshman Carter Kellett (16:11), junior Ben Meisner (16:19) and junior Kerolos Khalil (17:00) also ran lifetime bests in the varsity race. In the junior varsity, juniors Zach Judy and Trevor Walton both break the 17-minute barrier for the first time, leading a group of 104 Greyhound finishers, most of whom ran lifetime best performances.
