Kevin Wright has been named as the new head football coach at Carmel. The official announcement was made to team members on November 26. Wright’s first stint as Carmel coach was from 2010 to 2014, where he led the Greyhounds to a state title in 2011 and runner-up finishes in 2013 and 2014. “Kevin brings a wealth of experience and success to our program. We are excited for him to work with our Greyhounds again,” said CHS athletic director Jim Inskeep. Wright played for his father Bud Wright at Sheridan High School, graduating in 1983. He then played four years of college football at Western Kentucky University, where he was a wide receiver. He began his head coaching career with one year at Frankfort (1991), before heading to Noblesville, where he coached from 1992 to 1998. Wright led the Millers to a sectional title in 1997. From there, Wright spent one year at Louisville Trinity (1999), then had six highly successful seasons at Warren Central (2000-05). The Warriors won three state championships under Wright’s leadership, in 2003, 2004, 2005 and claimed at least a sectional title in all six seasons. Wright made stops at Union High School in Oklahoma and a two-year stint as offensive coordinator at his alma mater Western Kentucky before his five years with Carmel. After that, Wright coached at IMG Academy, the nationally recognized prep school in Bradenton, Fla, for four years (2015-19). Wright led IMG to an undefeated season in his first season. His record at IMG Academy was 44-2. Wright spent four seasons in the tight ends coach position at Indiana University, coaching there from 2020 to 2023.
