Browner to Retire after 2024 Track Season

At the conclusion of the 2024 season, Kenneth Browner is retiring as the head coach of the Carmel High School boys' track and field program after 14 years. Coach Browner started his coaching career in 1988, at his alma mater, Marion High School, serving as a volunteer coach. In 1990, he joined the staff of Hall of Fame coach Bob Potter at Lawrence North high school. During his tenure, he coached multiple events and was part of four state championship teams and one runner-up in his 16 years as an assistant. In 2006, following the retirement of coach Bob Potter, he took over as head coach of the Wildcats. In his five years as head coach at Lawrence North, he coached three individual state champions, three individual state runner-up’s, one individual national champion, one IATCCC first team Academic All-State, two (2) team sectional championships (2007 & 2008), one team state runner-up in 2008 and four top ten IHSAA state meet finishes. In 2010-11, Coach Browner took over the boy’s track and field program at Carmel High School. In his 13 seasons as the coach of the Greyhounds, he has 13 individual state champs, 2 relay state champs, 10 individual state runner-up’s, one (1) relay team state runner-up, fifty (50) IATCCC first team Academic All-State, nine sectional championships, five Regional championships, four IHSAA team state titles (2015, 2016, 2017 & 2021) two team state runner-ups (2014 & 2023), 2021 Dyestat National Team Champion and nine top five IHSAA state meet finishes. Overall, Coach Browner has won 8 Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference titles, 11 Sectional, 5 Regional championships and four IHSAA state championships. He has coached the 2015 & 2016 Gatorade Boy’s Track and Field athlete of the year. He has been recognized by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association coach of the year four (4) times and was selected as the USTFCCCA Midwest Coach of the year in 2017. Browner was also selected by his peers as the Carmel High School Head Coach of the Year a record 4 times. In 2017, he was inducted into the Indiana Association of Track & Cross-Country Coaches Hall of Fame.
