Carmel Boys Volleyball made program history on Saturday, capturing its first sectional championship in the IHSAA sponsored era with victories over Fishers and Westfield at Hamilton Southeastern. After Thursday’s dramatic sectional-opening victory over second-ranked Hamilton Southeastern, the Greyhounds returned Saturday to face another major challenge in 7th-ranked Fishers, a program that has dominated Hamilton County and the sectional landscape since 2018. Carmel dropped the opening set 20-25, but quickly responded and completely shifted momentum, rolling through the next three sets 25-13, 25-7, 25-19 to advance to the championship match. The Greyhounds were led offensively by the outside duo of Thomas Kuehl and Eli Philistin-Lynch, who combined for 27 of Carmel’s 42 kills. Philistin-Lynch delivered another standout performance with 19 kills, while also recording his 500th career kill during the semifinal victory. At the net, Jack Kovac played a massive role defensively, contributing 7 terminal blocks to help slow Fishers’ attack and push Carmel into the championship. In the sectional final, the Greyhounds faced a red-hot Westfield team that came out firing from the opening serve. Carmel had to earn every point in a high-level match, eventually sweeping the Shamrocks 27-25, 25-18, 25-21 to secure the championship. The Hounds’ offense operated at an elite level throughout the match, totaling 47 kills in just three sets against one of the top defensive teams in the state. Once again, Thomas Kuehl and Eli Philistin-Lynch delivered career performances on the biggest stage. Kuehl finished with 17 kills, while Philistin-Lynch added 19 kills, continuing his dominant postseason run. Ian Czarnecki also made a key impact offensively, recording 6 kills on just 10 swings, providing efficient production in critical moments. The sectional title marks another major step forward for a Carmel program that has steadily climbed back into the state conversation and now stands among Indiana’s elite entering regional play. The Greyhounds will now travel to the Peru Regional on Saturday, May 23rd, where they will face Fort Wayne Carroll at 12:00 PM. The winner will advance to the regional championship match at 7:00 PM against either Zionsville or Homestead, with a trip to the Final Four on the line.
