Carmel Defeats 4th Ranked Hamilton Southeastern in Sectional Opener

Carmel Boys Volleyball earned one of its biggest wins of the season on Thursday night, defeating Hamilton Southeastern in four sets (27-25, 20-25, 25-22, 25-21) in a highly anticipated sectional showdown between two top-five programs. In a match filled with momentum swings and high-level play, the Greyhounds showed composure in key moments, responding after dropping the second set and closing out the match behind strong offensive performances and disciplined defense. Eli Philistin-Lynch delivered another career performance for the Hounds, finishing with 25 kills and 15 digs, impacting the match on both sides of the ball and continuing his standout postseason run. Thomas Kuehl also recorded a double-double with 14 kills and 13 digs, providing steady production offensively while anchoring the back row throughout the evening. At setter, Shep Spidel guided the offense with 50 assists, consistently keeping Carmel’s hitters in rhythm and distributing effectively in critical moments. Ian Czarnecki made a major impact in the third set, contributing 7 kills, several of which came during key stretches that helped shift momentum back toward the Greyhounds. Defensively, Jett Burke added 15 digs, helping stabilize Carmel’s defense and extending multiple rallies in crucial situations. The victory marks a significant postseason moment for the program, as Carmel advances past one of the state’s top teams and continues its pursuit of a sectional championship. The Greyhounds will return to action on Saturday, May 16th, when they face Fishers in the second round of sectionals. Match time is scheduled for 12:30 PM at Hamilton Southeastern High School.
