Carmel JV Girls Win Team Title at Home Invite

The Carmel Girls Track & Field team put together a strong all-around performance at the Carmel HS Girls JV Invite on Saturday, May 9, winning the team title at Carmel Stadium. The Greyhounds finished with 153.5 points, ahead of Westfield with 44.5, Columbus North with 31, and Hamilton Southeastern with 14. Carmel scored in nearly every event area, with contributions coming from sprints, distance, hurdles, relays, throws, and jumps. Carmel started the meet with a strong showing in the 4x800 relay, taking the top two spots. The team of Maddie Cox, Lilliana Cate, Ashley Kent, and Lauren Mathews won the event in 10:44.85, while Arden Finley, Caroline Schmidt, Evelyn Cunningham, and Emma Kistler finished second in 11:26.55. The Greyhounds continued to perform well in the sprint events. In the 100 meters, Farah Azeez won in 13.32, followed by Payton Hunter in second at 13.34, Laya Wilson in third at 13.53, and Niah Wilson in fourth at 13.58. Wilson later won the 200 meters in 27.83, with Niah Wilson placing fourth, Hunter fifth, and Kennedy Patterson sixth. In the 400 meters, Carmel placed five athletes in the top five. Elise Maurer won the event in 58.75, followed by Kalinda Lee in second at 59.53, Alice Rogers in third at 1:01.30, Ashlyn Neuhoff in fourth at 1:03.93, and Maria de las Heras Hermosilla in fifth at 1:05.79. Carmel also had several strong performances in the distance events. Jade Gaczkowski won the 800 meters in 2:24.91, with Anna Yoon finishing second in 2:28.11 and Scarlett Gaczkowski placing fifth in 2:30.78. In the 1600 meters, Ellie Smith won with a time of 5:23.22. Annabelle Inman placed third in 5:45.67, Abigail Schilt was fourth in 5:49.65, Ashley Kent finished fifth in 5:50.83, and Lily Kamstra placed sixth in 5:50.89. In the 3200 meters, Katerina Zhuravlev finished first in 12:01.47, while Izzie Shin placed third in 12:18.15. The hurdles crew added more strong results for the Greyhounds. Katelyn Kenney placed fourth in the 100-meter hurdles in 17.86, with Mackenzie Millis finishing fifth in 18.23. Kenney later won the 300-meter hurdles in 50.83, followed by Sally Baroudi in second at 51.02 and Ananya Manikanden in fifth at 53.29. Carmel also earned wins in both the 4x100 and 4x400 relays. The 4x100 relay team of Laya Wilson, Kennedy Patterson, Payton Hunter, and Niah Wilson won in 50.71. The 4x400 relay team of Kalinda Lee, Elise Maurer, Alice Rogers, and Anna Yoon won in 4:10.91. The field events were another strong area for Carmel. Abigail Bonacker won the shot put with a throw of 33-5.75, while Ellie Cooley placed second at 30-0. In the discus, Norah Chase won with a throw of 125-8, with Bonacker placing second at 115-1 and Heather Rangel finishing fifth at 90-8. In the jumps, Sofia Duncan won the high jump at 4-8, while Marie Perrin and Addison Maynor tied for second at 4-6. In the long jump, Payton Hunter won with a mark of 16-8.5, and Elise Maurer finished second at 16-7.75. Cady Hamlett added points in the pole vault, tying for fourth at 7-0. The JV Invite gave Carmel’s athletes another valuable opportunity to compete and continue building toward the final stretch of the season.
