Carmel Girls Track & Field Wins Dennis McNulty Invitational

The Carmel Girls Track & Field team put together a complete team performance Friday night, winning the Dennis McNulty Invitational at Warren Central High School. The Greyhounds won the meet with 141 points, using contributions from every part of the lineup to bring home the team championship. Carmel scored in the sprints, distance events, hurdles, relays, jumps, pole vault, and throws, showing the kind of balance and depth that makes a difference as the season moves toward May. On the track, Gaby Grande Rosas led the way with a pair of big performances, winning the 400m in 57.10 and placing 2nd in the 200m in 25.98. Kalinda Lee added a strong 4th-place finish in the 400m in 1:00.33, while Elise Maurer placed 7th in the 400m in 1:01.67 and added points in the long jump with a 6th-place jump of 15-6.50. Carmel also picked up sprint points from Livi Miller, who placed 6th in the 100m in 12.79, and Jenna Harris, who finished 7th in the 100m in 12.81 and 5th in the 200m in 26.49. In the middle distance and distance events, Kaitlyn Oshimura won the 800m in 2:14.94, while Arden Finley placed 7th in 2:26.62. In the 1600m, Ella Weaver finished 4th in 5:38.42, and Annabelle Inman placed 6th in 5:40.64. Ashley Kent added more points for the Greyhounds in the 3200m, placing 4th in 12:06.54. The hurdles crew also contributed important points. Faith Tchuente Fotso placed 7th in the 100m hurdles in 16.52. In the 300m hurdles, Livi Miller finished 5th in 46.98, while Maija Gilhooly placed 6th in 48.19. Carmel’s relays added key team points throughout the meet. The 4x100m relay placed 3rd in 49.72, the 4x400m relay finished 2nd in 3:55.91, and the 4x800m relay placed 3rd in 10:07.13. The field events were a major strength for the Greyhounds. In the pole vault, Kate Hammond won the event by clearing 11-0, while Livi Miller finished 2nd at 10-6, giving Carmel a big 1-2 finish. Vera Griffin added points in the high jump, placing 6th with a clearance of 4-8. The throws group had a huge night as well. Ellie Cooley won the discus with a throw of 133-8, while Amyla Holder placed 3rd in the discus at 128-2 and 2nd in the shot put at 39-0. Norah Chase placed 5th in the shot put with a throw of 33-11.75, and Abigail Bonacker scored in both throwing events, finishing 8th in the shot put at 31-9.75 and 8th in the discus at 98-3. From start to finish, the Greyhounds stacked points across the board. Carmel’s 141-point championship effort was built on wins, depth, and athletes stepping up in every event area.
