The Carmel Girls Track & Field team kicked off the outdoor season in impressive fashion on Tuesday, April 14, rolling past Pike and Ben Davis in a strong all-around performance. The Greyhounds scored 97 points to finish well ahead of Pike (38) and Ben Davis (32), showing the kind of depth, balance, and early-season firepower that makes this group so exciting to watch. One of the biggest highlights of the night came in the 4x800 relay, where Annabel Pollert, Sadie Foley, Kaitlyn Oshimura, and Larkin Taylor turned in a blazing 8:59.69 to claim the win. That performance currently ranks No. 4 in the nation on MileSplit. Carmel also picked up relay wins in the 4x100, where Livi Miller, Gaby Grande Rosas, Kate Hammond, and Jenna Harris ran 49.03, and in the 4x400, where Elise Maurer, Molly Foley, Kalinda Lee, and Gaby Grande Rosas combined for a winning time of 4:02.82. The distance crew was terrific from the start. Carmel swept the top four spots in the 1600 meters, led by Ellie Smith in 5:25.57, followed by Maddie Cox, Lilliana Cate, and Izzie Shin. The Greyhounds were even more dominant in the 800 meters, taking the top four places with Sadie Foley, Kaitlyn Oshimura, Larkin Taylor, and Annabel Pollert finishing 1-2-3-4. In the 3200 meters, Katie Zhuravlev led another huge Carmel showing, winning in 11:57.44, while Jade Gackowski and Ashley Kent completed a sweep of the top three. Carmel’s distance group was cooking all evening. Carmel also delivered big performances in the sprints, hurdles, jumps, and throws. In the 100 meters and 200 meters, Jenna Harris scored for the Greyhounds, and in the 400 meters, Carmel swept the top four spots behind Molly Foley, Kalinda Lee, Elise Maurer, and Alice Rogers. In the hurdles, Livi Miller won the 300 hurdles, while Faith Tchuente Fotso scored in the 100 hurdles. In the field events, Carmel kept stacking points. Vera Griffin won the high jump, while Livi Miller and Kate Hammond went 1-2 in the pole vault, with Hammond clearing a personal-best 10-6. Elise Maurer also scored in the long jump with a second-place finish. In the throws, Amyla Holder placed third in the shot put, and Carmel completely took over the discus, sweeping the top three spots behind Ellie Cooley, Holder, and Abigail Bonacker. Just as exciting as the meet win was the opportunity to get so many girls out there competing. It was a great night to see athletes across the roster step up, compete well, and continue building confidence early in the season. After a long indoor stretch, it was especially fun to finally get so many girls into competition and let them show what they can do. All in all, it was a great way to open the outdoor season and a strong start for the Greyhounds this spring. Go Hounds!
