Boys cross country wins Hamilton County

The boys cross country team began its regular season schedule of 5000 meter races with a win at the highly competitive Hamilton County championship at White River Elementary in Noblesville. The Greyhounds tallied 33 points with seven finishers in the top 20 earning all-county honors. The top-ranked 'Hounds outdistanced #2 Noblesville (53), #5 Fishers (56) and #7 Hamilton Southeastern (77). Senior Tony Provenzano led the scoring for Carmel with his second-place finish in 15:05, followed by classmates Kyle Grove in fourth (15:31) and Thomas Biltimier in sixth (15:55). Sophomore Carter Buhr and junior Kiefer Jay finished tenth and 11th, respectively, in 16:03. Freshman Jonah Kaul (16:31), senior Joel Spittal (16:32), sophomore Deklin Bowser (16:39), junior Josh Cale (16:44) and junior Eli Gomez (16:54) all ran lifetime best performances in addition to PRs by Grove, Buhr and Jay. In the junior varsity division, Carmel finished second to Hamilton Southeastern, 33-39. Senior Drew Grogan and junior Cohen Levy used a late-race charge to finish first and second. Senior Julien Gourgue also moved up continually through the race, ultimately placing ninth in a lifetime best of 17:31. The 'Hounds will next compete at the Brownsburg Invite on Saturday, September 2.
